The Young Filmmakers Workshop
Brought to you by 5th Wall Theater Co. and Sundance Award-winning filmmaker Steve Yeager, the Young Filmmakers Workshop is a series of professional-level art design, filmmaking, and performance courses that culminate in a red-carpet premiere of student films at Baltimore’s historic Senator Theatre.
The Young Filmmakers Workshop provides a hands-on, intensive environment where young people create the world of film and build basic to advanced-level skills under the guidance of working professionals. These workshops can jump-start careers and provide portfolio-quality work for students wishing to pursue filmmaking, directing, visual design, or acting professions. Whether here for professional reason or simply to have fun, students should be prepared to live and breathe the world of film in a total immersion workshop.
Space is limited, so early application is recommended.
For all YFW Participants: Our fall premiere is underwritten by program sponsor ads. This tax deductible expense is supported by student ad sales. Further information will be provided upon enrollment.

Ages 8-12

June 23 – July 11
Acting for the Camera II
$1,395.00
Students go beyond the basics of character, motivation, script analysis, and relationships, using such acting techniques as Meisner, Stanislavski, and Strasberg. Emphasis is on developing on-camera dramatic skills in an environment where each student is challenged to stretch his or her abilities to maximum potential. Students spend the first week training and in rehearsals, and the second and third weeks shooting a narrative film while training continues.
Ages 13-17

Filmmaking
$1,395.00
Students are trained in all aspects of the filmmaker's craft, have an opportunity to direct, and are rotated into each job of a working film crew. Instruction covers beginning to intermediate elements, including lighting composition, camera movement, continuity, and directing actors, while shooting a short narrative feature film which is completed by week three.
Ages 12-17
Younger students may participate in the above courses if they have prior YFW class experience or with the permission of the instructor.

Art & Design
$1,095.00
This program is for those who love art, drawing, costuming, make-up, and visual design, and are interested in embarking upon or furthering their studies in filmmaking. Learn script analysis, design conception, location selection, character analysis, and more while creating props, sets, make-up, and costumes for the YFW films. The small size of this class allows us to tailor the course to each student's ability, while providing a hands-on opportunity to engage in these processes from start to finish. Students spend the first week designing and building, and the second and third weeks applying their work to a narrative film. This is a unique opportunity for anyone who loves art, but doesn't necessarily "color within the lines."
Ages 10-17

Graphic Design & Special Effects
$1,195.00
Create distinctive technical effects while learning to unify a film's visual elements. From credit sequences to computer-designed cinematography, to posters and DVDs, students learn the technological visual production side of filmmaking while using the industry's top graphics design software. This course is perfect for "techies," "gamers," and kids who want to learn how to apply their passion for technology creatively. Students contribute to a narrative film shot in the second and third weeks, while working on independent and class projects.
Ages 10-17
Session II
Al classes 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

July 14 – July 25
Advanced Film Lab
$1,195.00
This is a high-level class in which each student conceptualizes, shoots, and edits a short documentary film. A week is dedicated to editing the films and learning Final Cut Pro in the editing lab. This is a rare opportunity for the avid student to work in a specialized setting. Students must provide their own mini DV digital camcorder.
Ages 13-17
Those who have not attended a prior YFW production course are required to submit a sample of their work on DVD or tape with their registration.
Location:
The Park School is located on Old Court Road, between Falls Rd and Greenspring Ave.
